TURTLE HATCHING

$145.00

Many tourists come from around the world to watch in wonder and excitement as turtles hatch from their eggs and make their way into the sea. I am amazed at this spectacle of nature; the hatchlings wait till nightfall, when the sand is cooler and then they are guided to the sea by the natural light on the horizon.
At the southern part of the Great Barrier Reef near Bundaberg, loggerhead turtles, green turtles and a few hawksbill turtles make their way to the land to nest from November to March. The mothers then return to the water. From January to May, the hatchlings scramble back to the sea. As prey to birds, fish, crabs and other creatures, only one in a thousand survives.
