DANCING BROLGA

$440.00

You can often see a wonderful sense of freedom, movement and exhilaration when you watch brolgas dancing. The brolga is the Aboriginal name for Australia’s only endemic crane and is sometimes known as the Native Companion. It is a tall bird, standing about 1.2 m and has a husky, bugling call. Brolgas are found mainly on the inland grass plains and feed on insects and small reptiles. They are found on the Atherton Tableland where I come from. They are graceful in flight. Groups of brolgas perform elegant, stately dances with pairs or several birds lining up opposite each other, moving back and forth with much wing shaking and trumpeting. The background of the painting represents the patterned sky.
